At Apple Tree Learning Centers, we offer a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities available for the entire family. We enjoy introducing parents with children to the hidden secrets of the greater Stowe area. We also take the children on adventures while parents are elsewhere. Many of our Family Guide Services are seasonal in nature, offering unique opportunities to experience all that this area has to offer.
BELOW IS A SAMPLING OF THE PROGRAMS FOR WINTER:
Winter Discoveries
Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides
All sleigh rides are not created equal. We have sampled the best in the area, and let the kids pick the winner. Apple Tree visits Apple Cheek Farm, Top Notch, and Trapp Family Lodge. *
Ice Falls, Ice and Cave Discovery
Walk the safe ice along stream edge right to the base of towering ice falls. Explore the frozen beaver pond and observe his canals and lodge. Climb the rocky path to spectacular views down the frozen cascade. Play on slides at the source. Explore a mysterious forest ice formation where there is no water fall, and seek a frozen cavity. Squeeze into a cave crack, climb up through the narrow passage, and pop out the top!
Cross Country Ski Adventure
We travel to Trapp Family Lodge to enjoy some of the very best cross country skiing in New England. Kid friendly outings can stay close to the warm fire in the lodge, or challenge experienced youth with a longer expedition. Experienced instruction and guiding provides for an appropriate fun-filled adventure.*
Petra Cliffs Indoor Climbing Adventure
Take a break from the outdoor weather. Children are transported to South Burlington to enjoy an indoor climbing experience at a state-of-the-art climbing gym. Petra Cliffs features climbing walls, boldering room, caving ramp, and a high wire ropes course.
Indoor Ice Skating
Children love to skate. Whether they are trying it for their first time, or racing around forwards and backwards, our experienced staff keep children focused and safe so that everyone can improve and everyone will have fun.
Outdoor Ice Skating
Depending on the weather, we can skate outside at small simple outdoor rinks or fancy outdoor rinks, or we can sometimes skate on wide open ice on the frozen reservoir.
Bingham Falls and Moss Glen Falls Expeditions
We will pull off the Mountain Road, and hike DOWN the short side trail to Bingham Falls. Steep stone steps descend to a view of cascading snow and ice. And/or we’ll head to Moss Glen Falls, and take the short hike UP to the spectacular narrow ravine falls that split through the solid rock in a straight drop of water and ice.
Llama Walk and Farm Tour
We visit Apple Cheek Farm to visit with llamas, horses, chickens, and emus! Then we head out and let the llamas lighten our load and brighten our day as we take them for a short walk or longer tour.*
Sled Dogs Adventure
We visit “the unchained gang” at Eaden Dog Sled Adventures. You can get up close and personal with Jim Blair’s very friendly Alaskan sled dogs. Experience his doggy meet and greet with his exclusive hands-on harnessing indoors and outdoors hitching your team to a sleigh.*
