After School Bulletin - 9/4/19

Sweet September

And so it begins! It has been great fun to see the new mix of familiar faces from After School, Summer Camp, and those new faces from SES and new kindergarteners. We have enjoyed meeting parents and hope to get to know you better in the weeks ahead.

Important updates and reminders

  • Optional off-site activity programs: Horseback Riding, Canoeing, Hiking

Horseback Riding Lessons: The ATLC group (originally scheduled for Tuesdays) has combined with the SES group to go horseback riding on Thursdays.

Canoeing: The ATLC Monday group has been canceled. The SES free paddle on Wednesday 9/4 was a great success, but we still need more paddlers to register for this program. There has been a request to offer a different day of canoeing for soccer players who can’t join on Wednesdays. If you are interested in Canoeing on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, please register.

    SES Paddlers Register online Here.

Explorers Hiking GroupRide the Apple Tree Van to local trails. Learn skills such as how to read a map, use a compass, and practice Leave No Trace principles.

    ATLC Hikers Register Here.

  • At SES our Onsite Theme for this session is Amazing Autumn

Kacey will be onsite painting with natural colors made from earth and flowers, making apple dream catchers, doing leaf stamping and marbleizing, hosting a pollinator party, and we might meet a naturalist at Mill trail and take a walk to sunset rock!

  • Please continue to pay PRIOR to week attending

Tuition is due weekly, and we bill one week ahead for After school. Billing is generally processed on Wednesdays and statements include what is due for the following week.

  • Our New License at SES has been Approved!

  • Our STARS application request has been approved for THREE stars!

  • We offer Full Day Discovery programs on most school vacations. Students are not automatically charged for these school vacation days and these days are not reserved according to your contract. Families register for vacation days in advance with a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our Full Day Discovery Fees are $60 per day per child. (Our first Full Day Discovery on Friday August 30th was a sensational success!) Our next Full Day Discovery programs will be on October 9 when SES will be closed (see below). Please note that on days when Apple Tree is closed for holiday vacation, professional development, or snow days, families are still charged so that teachers do not experience loss of pay.

  • Communicating schedule changes: We really appreciate reminders about changes in your schedules and plans. We do NOT receive information via Pick-up Patrol. When children do not get off that bus we must try to locate them immediately. These are tense moments and I appreciate your cooperation. Also please remember that normal pick-up is between 5:00 and 5:30. Our After School group is likely to be out and about until then. If you would like to pick up your child at a different time, please request in advance.

  • Harvest (Apple) Social Friday, September 27: The Apple Social has transformed into the Harvest Social, so that treats are no longer limited to apple recipes. We encourage parents to stop in at Apple Tree After School on Friday. The younger classes at the center will start at 3:30 and After School will start at 4:00. I hope you meet some other parents, learn some names, and learn how to play “Everybody’s It!”

  • After School is OPEN on October 18 when the rest of the Center is closed for Professional Development. We will likely close for our After School Professional Development Conference on November 1st.

  • October Adventure: SES will be closed on October 9th . Don’t miss our Full Day Discovery adventure. We plan to take a hike to the top of Mt. Elmore.

      • Thank you very much for your efforts to keep up with forms and information. If your child’s file is now complete, you should have a copy of your contract for your records. Please stock those backpacks with an extra snack and a water bottle for after school. Add appropriate footwear if not worn to school. Children may need extra layers, rain gear, maybe sunscreen and watershoes now, but it will be hats and mittens soon. Some of these items and an extra set of dry clothes can be kept in a cubby at Apple Tree. We are looking forward to lots more fun After School this year. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us by email: afterschool@appletreelc.com or by phone: 802-345-5728.
